What Is Zelle?
Zelle is a digital payments network that allows people to transfer money directly between U.S. bank accounts, typically within minutes. Unlike third-party payment apps, Zelle works directly through your credit union’s app, meaning there’s no need to load funds onto a separate account or wait for a transfer to “cash out.” The money moves straight from one bank account to another.
Zelle is already used by thousands of banks and credit unions across the country, making it easy to send money to friends and family regardless of where they bank, as long as their institution also participates in the Zelle network.
How Zelle Works
Getting started with Zelle through St. Thomas FCU is simple:
- Enroll – Log in to the St. Thomas FCU mobile app or online banking and enroll your email address or U.S. mobile phone number with Zelle.
- Choose a recipient – To send money, select or enter the email address or phone number of the person you want to pay.
- Enter an amount – Specify how much you’d like to send.
- Send – Confirm the transaction, and the money is on its way. If your recipient is already enrolled with Zelle, funds typically arrive within minutes.
- Receive money – If someone sends you money, you’ll get a notification. If you’re enrolled, the funds move directly into your account automatically. If you’re not yet enrolled, you’ll receive instructions on how to sign up to claim the payment.
