Job Summary

As a member of the St. Thomas Federal Credit Union team, the Member Engagement Specialist supports the National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) regulations and policies along with other Credit Union’s policies and respectfully interacts with others in the organization and those doing business with the Credit Union. Represents the Credit Union with professionalism, ethics, integrity, and mutual respect towards colleagues and internal/external clients. Keeps current and proficient with necessary skills and knowledge, including computer skills. Self-identifies training needs relevant to the work area and responsibilities. Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, openness to change, and accountability. Works within a team environment, providing support to and collaboration with colleagues.

When performing daily work, the Member Engagement Specialist provides information on Credit Union products and services to members under Credit Union policies and procedures and Local and Federal rules and regulations. Interviews and evaluates applicants for loans and processing various loan applications. Gathers background information and analyzes loan applicants’ credit history. Completes loan applications.

Purpose

Support members through a broad range of responsibilities including teller transactions, member service support, and lending assistance. This role delivers personalized service, promotes appropriate financial solutions, and ensures accurate, efficient, and compliant operations to enhance the overall member experience.

Essential Functions

Greet and welcome members and visitors to the credit union in a professional manner. Represent the credit union to members in a courteous and professional manner and provide prompt, efficient, and accurate service in the processing of transactions.
Provide in-person and by telephone general and specific service-related information concerning credit union products or policies.
May reply to email or other electronic requests submitted by members, providing professional, prompt, efficient, and accurate service and information.
Respond to members’ requests, problems, and complaints, resolving issues, and/or directing them to the appropriate person for specific information and assistance. May handle more complex questions and problems for other Member Liaisons.
Handle requests from members for transfers of shares to loan payments, share withdrawals, check requests, CD transactions, and any other requests received from members.
Up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by Member Service Representatives. Up-to-day and comprehensive knowledge of all related policies and procedures, rules, and regulations.
Open and close new accounts, including club accounts.
Complete changes of name and address and verifications of accounts.
Cross-sell STTFCU products and services.
Assists members with questions, inquiries, and complaints.
Handles cash efficiently and accurately.
Process changes and update account information.
Prepare documents for mailing and assist with picking up and delivering mail to the postal service.
Handle routine to moderate duties and special projects with some discretionary responsibility.
Performs a variety of clerical duties related to the processing, administration, and closing of existing loans, including document preparation, processing/closing, accounting, systems support, and report writing. Gather background information on loan applicants by interviewing loan applicants in – person or by phone and obtaining credit bureau reports and fees for processing loan applications. Handles loans of the highest complexity, value, or risk and researches any discrepancies.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate degree in business administration or a related field or at least . One (1) year of sales or customer service; six (6) months of cash handling experience; a minimum of six (6) months of experience with STTFCU or in financial services with a high school diploma or equivalent.. Ability to interact with others positively, both in person and by phone. Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate communication and analytical skills. Ability to handle a variety of member requests, including difficult member situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data and update member financial records via computer. Ability and willingness to sell products and services. Knowledge of office equipment and other automated enhancements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products’ core operating software and network drives is required within sixty (60) days of employment.
